About Us
The Sedna IV prepares its biggest journey. In a few months, he will leave the North American waters to sail due south towards the tropics. The tropical area is the region of the Earth receives more heat from the sun. This abundance of light and energy supports the incredible diversity of species and ecosystems that live there. This lavish marriage between a planet and its star.
Thus, the Sedna IV will investigate the global biodiversity, where it is expressed with more vigor. The route the boat will evolve over the months at the discretion of the climate and discoveries. Here the main lines of the odyssey three years he is about to undertake:
The first shipment will cover the Caribbean and its islands and coasts and forests of Costa Rica and Panama, ending in the Galapagos archipelago. This expedition will introduce the public to biological diversity based on the lessons of natural history in which these regions contain.
The second expedition will focus on animal migration and movement of life. It will begin in the Sea of Cortes, will continue on the West Coast of the United States and Canada, even in the cold waters of Alaska fish, and finally completed in Hawaii. This expedition will be the opportunity to follow whales, salmon, bears and other species in their foraging and partners.
The third and fourth expeditions will take place in an area between the Philippines, northern Indonesian island of Sumatra in the west and Samoa in the east – a mosaic of tropical islands and reefs coral complexity unmatched elsewhere in the world. Both expeditions will explore the people, cultures and traditions associated with the fauna and flora, marine and terrestrial, this tangle of mysterious islands. New Guinea and Borneo are the number of large islands that will be discussed during these two expeditions.
The fifth expedition will venture on the shores of the Indian Ocean, Madagascar and the coast of East Africa and South Africa. The team will go to meet animals that are emblematic of these territories – big cats, elephants and other lemurs.
The boat will carry the sixth expedition to Brazil, where he will rendezvous with the Earth Summit Rio +20, in 2012, then in the depths of the Amazon forests and pristine Guyana.
Shipments seven, eight and nine will take place during the third and final year of travel. The Sedna IV will run along the west coast of Africa, ushered in the Mediterranean and its islands, and then will head for northern Europe and, finally, the Canadian Arctic, thus completing a loop that began more than ten years ago.
During this trip devoted to the biosphere and its treasures, many initiatives will be undertaken with schools and the general public to disseminate the findings and meetings conducted by Jean Lemire and his team. The websites will follow on a daily basis the story of this extraordinary journey, more than learn about the major issues raised by the shipments.
See you soon!
