The Mission

1,000 Days for the Planet, such is the name of Jean Lemire’s next mission. Schooner SEDNA IV and its crew are embarking on an expedition that will take place over three years or “1,000 Days”. We say these days are “for the Planet”, because the goal of this exceptional journey is to celebrate the incredible diversity of life on Earth and to encourage the world to take ownership in its protection.

After crossing the mythical North-West Passage (2002) and getting imprisoned by the ice of the Antarctic Peninsula (2006), SEDNA IV’s crew is ready to sail again. The famous ship intends to haul anchor in the summer of 2012. The new mission’s objective is to document the incredible beauty and wealth of species that live on this planet, as well as to bear witness to the state of the biosphere and its relationship with humanity.

Alongside scientists and a film crew, Jean Lemire will seek out field researchers working to protect species and their habitats all over the world. SEDNA IV’s odyssey will provide a unique opportunity to showcase their research which too often occurs behind the scenes and seldom manages to attract the attention of the general public.
